From the blog of P. A. Moed comes this week’s challenge — photos whose subjects begin with the letter S.

2. STORKS at Volubilis
We went to the ancient ruins of Volubilis to learn more about civilization there, but found that we couldn’t take our eyes off a stork’s nest. Our reward for patience? The view of a mother and babies.
3. SAILS on the Eastern Shore
On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open, and the world is full of beauty.

4. SUNSPHERE in Knoxville, Tennessee
At 75 feet tall, this glass sphere constructed for the 1982 World’s Fair remains a landmark for our hometown.
5. SCREEN DOOR — Elkmont Historic District, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Homes built in Elkmont in the early 1900s are still standing and in need of repair. But, oh, the memories of good times and the families who longed to return each summer.
6. First sign of SPRING — our own little White Star White Magnolia tree in the backyard
Flowers don’t worry how they’re going to bloom. They just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautiful.

Beautiful sunset to open with and I love the screen door photo, but I have to pick the magnolia as my absolute highlight here 🙂 They are among my favourite trees but it’s far too early for us to have any in flower in the UK, although I do see some buds starting to appear 🙂

What a lovely and varied set of esses you chose this week Rusha! The stork family is a great “get” and I loved the sails composition. Of course, like you I’d have been drawn to the old facade and screen door. Terrific choices.

Thanks so much. I had a lot of S pictures, and didn’t know it until I focused on that. As for the screen door, I hope to write a post on Elkmont soon. The aging buildings are a photographer’s dream.

I don’t want to mislead anyone, but perhaps I did. My magnolia hasn’t bloomed yet, but any day now. It’s just that I take pictures of that tree each and every spring mainly because I love the blooms and it’s right outside my back door. I have soooo many photos of it, and I love them all!
