WPC: Serene mornings in Maine

It’s hard to imagine a harbor being quiet, but frequently before dawn, it’s almost silent.  No seagulls honking.  No boat horns sounding.  No one yelling to pull up another trap.

Birds await fog lifting at the dock in Castine, Maine.

And it’s even more serene if fog has blanketed the area.

So necessary, these serene moments of reflection.

Coming from you, this is quite a compliment. Would love to see how your new camera would capture the same scenery — fog and all. Thanks for commenting!

We usually do hear gulls when we stand at this particular harbor, but, for some reason, this morning was different. Eerie almost. Hardly any sounds. Thanks for taking a look.

Sorry to be late responding. I’m immersed in Christmas and volunteer work right now. But thanks for taking a look and commenting. It was indeed a lovely time of day — and well worth getting out of bed, throwing on my clothes and shivering a bit down by the dock. Memories — good ones — for sure.

Thank you, Jackie. I loved standing there taking pictures and looking into the distance. Sometimes at home now I wish I were back . . . when life was calmer!

Thanks so much for taking a look at my photos. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to stay in Maine and walk down to the dock during the early morning hours. One of my fondest memories of the trip!

I agree and it looks as though we were both on the same path in that quiet water is perfect for serene reflective moments! If you haven’t had a chance to visit, here’s my own small thought on this week’s challenge: https://wp.me/p2CNyA-3oa

Love your photos also. I didn’t dare put my feet in the chilly waters of Maine, but if I’m at a South Carolina beach, I want to do nothing else! It’s all geography, I suppose!

Thanks so much for taking a look. This scenery is something you would love as well. Or at least I think you would. Such a great place for contemplation — and picture taking!

Beautiful, serene photos, Rusha. Just looking at them makes me relax. I, too, love a foggy, quiet morning in a port. I always welcome the sound of a distant foghorn, however. Somehow, it adds to the ambience for me. –Curt

Thanks, as always, for commenting. It was a great place for relaxation as well as getting a glimpse at how life goes on even in the fog. And that horn? There was one, coming from a tugboat that the Maine Maritime Academy uses. It blasted forth, and I probably came off the dock a foot. Wasn’t prepared for that one!!

Funny, Rusha… I prefer my fog horns to be off in the distance and issuing their lonely calls on a set pattern. 🙂

Most of these mornings were a bit chilly, but a good down coat and some warm socks go a long way. I was totally determined to see this harbor each morning we stayed in Castine. It’s really a beautiful spot in the universe.

Beautiful photos! I love the mornings I drive through the photo to work. The little highway I take is very beautiful and relieves the stress.

I, too, enjoy little highways, especially if they wind through rural countryside. So very peaceful. Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks so much, Amy. I think you would have loved taking pictures there, too. Or at least you seem to love serene places in nature.

Love Maine, and agree much of it IS serene! I’m noticing on a lot of the serene posts that people include water. I think that’s a trend.

    1. Oh, the Places We See

You’ve nailed it. People do tend to link water and serenity together. And why not? It’s peaceful, especially if there is little activity. And a fog helps, too. Thanks for taking a look.

These photos are so peaceful and serene. I love the quiet of a morning in Maine.

I loved that quiet as well. Wish I could be back there now instead of getting in a tizzy over Christmas!

You’re so right. It was chilly, but not as bad as you might think. Just foggy mostly. Thanks for taking a look!
