Travel theme: Minimalist

The Tybee Island Lighthouse on the Georgia coast stands tall as an enduring beacon of light for seagoing vessels.  Starkly simplistic in design, the lighthouse is known for its bands of black and white which have recently been painted as a part of the ongoing efforts to preserve this iconic landmark.  With its minimal adornments and classic windows, shutters, and roofline for the attached museum, this classy lighthouse represents all that we hope historic preservation in America can be.

Don’t you just love Tybee Island? We really enjoy all the sea turtle art that’s scattered about. And of course the lighthouse is a beautiful classic! Hope you had a lovely Christmas! 🙂 ~Terri

We noticed the sea turtle art, but won’t buy any until we purchase our beach house with our lottery winnings! 🙂 The lighthouse was delightful as were the volunteers and rangers on site — so much pride and rightfully so with this renovation. Thanks for taking a look.

I agree. It was a lovely sight, especially since it had been recently painted. What a treat to see this lighthouse preserved so beautifully. Happy New Year to you and your family as well. Safe travels!

It truly is elegant, Curt. And the outbuildings that I didn’t show are beautiful as well. So much history here and so many people who care about saving it for future generations. Best wishes for happy travels in 2015. Thanks for being one of my top 5 commenters in 2014. Your words are always appreciated.

We have old light houses along the Oregon and Northern California coasts as well, which are also being preserved. With you, I really like the fact that people have become aware of the beauty and the significance of our historical past and are making efforts to protect it. I’ve enjoyed your blogs. Keep it up! And may you and your family enjoy a great year as well. –Curt
