Orchids, too, at Keukenhof Gardens

Purple orchid close up: Keukenhof Gardens

In our previous post, Ribbons of Color: Keukenhof Gardens, we touted the sensory overload of giant swaths of spring tulips at Keukenhof, the gardens near Amsterdam priding itself (and with good reason) on their plantings of over 7,000,000 tulips each year. What a spectacular site that was for us and the thousands of other visitors that have roamed these gardens each year!

If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.

But stumbling onto something unexpected heightened our Keukenhof experience measurably: We found a conservatory of orchids quite by accident.

As we entered the glass home for these tropical beauties, we were met with colors and varieties we never knew existed. And even though we’re not aficionados of these elegant flowers by any means, we know beauty when we see it.

Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

And the flowers were indeed spectacular!

So, please enjoy this gallery of orchids as our addendum to the Keukenof story. A colorful, rare collection and a great find on an already spectacular trip to Holland!

This post is one in a series prompted by a recent trip to The Netherlands and Belgium. Thank you to Viking cruises (Holland & Belgium 2022) and our travel agent, Lauren Gunnels of Ortelius Travel Advisors, for the arrangements and free time to enjoy the scenery!
