Goodbye but still around: Oh, the Places We See

We weren’t sure eleven years ago that we’d still be publishing posts, but here we are. Eleven years into the joy of blogging and 782 posts under our belts.

But if there is ever a good time to end a good thing, then we think this is our time.

We began “Oh, the Places We See” on a whim: share our photos and tell our stories and people will come. And you did. And we loved hearing from you, reading your posts and comments, and becoming all the richer for encounters with people we might never see in person.

A favorites encounter: Chef Joanne Weir cooks in Marrakesh with her fellow chef, Bahija

Together we traveled the world and shared our experiences with any and all of you willing to travel with us.

We’ve shown each other photos based upon themes or just random glimpses of life as we know and see it. We were grateful for it all — not just for topics of the week we looked forward to receiving but also your takes and how you interpreted them so beautifully.

We’ve shared our passions, our favorite spots in the world, our families and recipes.

And through it all, we’ve become internet friends. Friends who endured a pandemic, the ups and downs of politics, personal illnesses, and the inevitable changes that life has thrown at us.

Saying goodbye doesn’t mean anything. It’s the time we spent together that matters, not how we left it.

For us, the art of writing, posting pictures, and sharing our thoughts and adventures has enriched our lives immensely. And we thank you for sharing your worlds with us. What a joy to have so many perspectives and friends and mutual admiration!

“Oh, the Places We See,” will remain on WordPress until Spring 2023. But for now, we won’t be contributing new posts or adding new pictures even though we will continue to read those of the people we follow. Our old posts will also be available for reading.

Good friends never say good-bye. They just say “See you soon”!

Oh Rusha and Bert, just when we come back you’re going away. So sad to hear this, but we totally understand. We too have been blogging for 11 years, but this past year threw us for a look with medical issues. I love catching up on all your great adventures this past year – and every year. I feel we’ve been together with you from nearly the start, and we have SO enjoyed getting to know you better over the years. You are gifted storytellers and always a joy to read. Thanks so much for your friendship and lovely conversations for so many wonderful years. We will miss you terribly and wish you all the very best. Big hugs and love, Terri and James

I was thrilled when I read that you will be sharing your stories soon. So sorry that illness took you away from all of us devoted followers, but we’re glad you’re on the mend. It’s even better that you want to share your adventures. I’ll still be following you, since I get an email message each time you post. Looking forward to your well-written, sometimes humorous but always insightful, posts! Best wishes for a grand return.

Rusha, it is SO good to hear from you. Thanks so much for all your kind words. I hope that your health issues are improving and you’re able to continue your adventures. I finally found you on Instagram this morning, so I’ll be able to get my “Rusha Fix.” I know that a lot of bloggers prefer that format because you can say as little or as much as you like without having to compose a blog post. That sure has some appeal! 🙂 Wishing you and Bert a wonderful holiday season and looking forward to staying in touch. Hugs, Terri

Hi Rusha, although I have an Instagram account (terri.vance_) I have not posted on it yet. We’ll see what the New Year brings. 🙂 Merry Christmas to you and Bert. <3 Terri

Just found you and am enjoying your catalog of posts. I just started my own travel blog this year abroadtravelingabroad.com to share support and advice with other solo senior female travelers. I hope someday to have an equally amazing collection of posts and travel experiences. I hope you’re able to successfully and quickly resolve any health challenges and look forward to learning more from and about you.

Rusha, I’ve loved your blogs and will miss them while you take time off. I did read in your comment to Tina that the reason is for health issues. I hope they are overcome and you a both well. Good luck to you both.

    1. Oh, the Places We See

We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our adventures with all who would read about them. And, in turn, we’ve enjoyed reading about observations, situations, and life encounters by other bloggers. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We need to get through some issues and then re-assess where and when we can visit and share experiences after that. Best wishes to you for continued success.

I’m saddened… Rusha. I have enjoyed traveling with you through your lens. Thank you for sharing your remarkable photos and beautiful thoughts, adventures, and stories with us. Mostly, I always admire the humanity works you have done for so many people. Thank you for visiting my site and leaving encouraging comments, it mean a lot to me.
I understand it’s time to breath. Take care, Rusha.

    1. Oh, the Places We See

You are one awesome blogger, Amy. And quite the compassionate writer, thinker, and photographer. I will keep up with blogs when I can, but we need to focus on some other life issues in the near future. Best wishes to you for continued success. And thanks for inspiring me to try new photography techniques that you’ve shared with all of us.

Ah, Rusha, makes me sad. I’ll miss you and Bert, for sure. Blogging is a strange world where we make friends, as real as any we’ve ever made. But on a different, more ephemeral level. But blogging is hard, consuming work, that we all seriously question at times. There are other things to do with our lives. I wish you the very best. –Curt

    1. Oh, the Places We See

Thanks, Curt. Your adventures in Oregon and beyond have been outstanding to read and uncover. Your life with Peggy is filled to the brim with great experiences, and I’ve loved reading about them all. Best wishes for continued success. Who knows? I may get back to it eventually. And maybe you’ll still be writing when I do. I’d like that very much.

    1. Oh, the Places We See

I feel as though I’ve seen so much more of Canada from your posts than I ever would even with a guided tour. Thanks for sharing the places and good times that have enriched your lives and added many interesting experiences to your lives. Best wishes for continued good hikes and explorations. And may you share them with others for years to come.

Oh, no! I’ve barely gotten started and you’re turning the switch off. Too bad for me but I celebrate with you the joy of having done it.
See you soon, on Facebook if not in person!

    1. Oh, the Places We See

Your blog is one we all aspire to compete with. Thanks for excellent photography, copy, and quotes. Your love of the coast is what I’ll always remember.
We are dealing with health issues at the moment, so we need a break to breathe in and ask what’s next. It could be that we’ll return, especially if healing is quick. Until then, we’ll be reading your posts and enjoying your photos. Best wishes!

  10. Toonsarah

I’ll miss your posts for sure – I can always count on seeing some lovely photos here and reading about travels to the sort of places I enjoy 🙂 Glad to hear you’re sticking around for a bit at least!

  11. Karen

I’m sorry to see you go, but understand completely and shouldn’t be surprised from such reflective people. You have, indeed, enriched my life as you did for your students and educators and probably everyone you’ve met.
Thanks for taking the time to say goodbye, so we don’t worry unnecessarily about you.
    Travel always in peace. Xo
