It’s not a wedding without wedding cake, but we’re always amazed at the extraordinary feat it must be to create an elaborate, elegant, showy-yet-tasty after-dinner creation. At my niece’s wedding this past weekend in Magnolia, Texas, the bride’s cake drew attention. And well it should. It had it all: layers of almond cake with buttercream frosting (both smooth and embellished), an elegant monogram, fresh fall flowers, and a stately cross at the top. Extraordinary in and of itself.
But much of the conversation related to this sweet ending centered on the groom’s cake. Yes, it really was a six-foot deer! And an edible one at that. With a red velvet cake interior and chocolate buttercream frosting body, this was one deer even the crew of Duck Dynasty (the groom’s favorite show) would find extraordinary!
Best of all? They were both soooooo good.

How amazing! I never heard of a cake each for the bride and groom. 😃
Oh, the Places We See
We’ve been to many weddings with two cakes; in fact, our sons both had their own cakes at their weddings. Typically, it’s a chocolate cake with something the groom likes — anything from a sports logo to handyman tools! And we like the idea of having two pieces of cake to try!!!

Sounds good to me. 😎

Wow, the intricate details on the first cake shows real passion from the creator’s part. What a beauty!

And it’s hard to believe that the same person who made that delicate cake could make that huge deer cake! Some people are just talented, I guess!

What dedication to make a cake like that!
Oh, the Places We See
You are so right. The cake artist is a friend of the bride, and she wanted to make something special. She did all right! Thanks for taking a look, Sue.

Six feet long, that’s a lot of cake! Were a thousand people there to eat it? 🙂 –Curt
Oh, the Places We See
Well, there were at least 200. And we all had a piece or two!

I’ve seen cakes. I’ve made cakes. But, I have never, ever seen a deer cake. Hysterical. 🙂
Oh, the Places We See
As my mama used to say, “This is somethin’ else!”

Wowsers! That IS EXTRAordinary!
Oh, the Places We See
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it. It loomed large in that big reception hall. You couldn’t miss it!!

Amazing- the deer cake was a 6 footer?
Oh, the Places We See
Now that’s the measurement the bride gave to me. I didn’t actually measure it myself. But from the front to the back, it had to measure more than 5 feet! Whatever it is, that deer was HUGE!!
