We’ve had a lot of rain lately. Maybe that’s the explanation. Or perhaps it’s the combination of hot, direct sun in the afternoons followed by bouts of heavy rain. I really don’t know.
But when I went out for a morning walk today, I had to turn back to grab my camera. Magnolias in my neighborhood were in full bloom. Showy. Softly unfolding. Beautiful.
Creamy blooms on shiny dark green leaves. Opening to the morning sun.
Begging to be seen. And smelled.
Here’s to you, my friends: a Southern treat from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Judy, you just may have to come south and smell the magnolias. So sweet! And so are you to comment.

Thanks Kaylene! Great to hear from you. This is really five different magnolias, but all are in different stages. Love these flowers.

Thanks, Lynda. I loved seeing them this morning — so open and so beautiful.

Thanks so much for your comment, Cindy. We have gigantic Southern magnolias in my neighborhood. My granddaughter even climbs up the branches in her “pretend” Magnolia playhouse. The experience is truly ethereal, as you said. Hope your summer’s going well.
