Our guide said it was unusual. Unusual to see a baby giraffe nursing from its mother. But we have no idea if it were an unusual sighting or not. After all, it was our first and possibly only safari.
But regardless of how uncommon it might be to see one little giraffe grateful for its belonging — to his/her mother, to the tower of giraffes in the area, to the game preserve on which it lives — we relished in the sight since we were in a good place at the right time. And a glimpse of the ordinary became extraordinary for us.

I love giraffes. How wonderful to see (and photograph) this.
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks for your nice comment! I love giraffes, too, and this was a special moment. Haven’t seen anything like it in zoos, and may never see it again. So, I’m savoring the moment!!!

That is a wonderful photo!
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks so much. It just may appear on a calendar I’m making for my husband, if I get busy before the Christmas rush! Appreciate the comment!

This is such a sweet photo. Wonderful capture, Rusha! 🙂
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks, Amy. We loved sitting silently watching the giraffes come and go, but when that little one moved closely to its mother, we were so happy to be there at the right time!

Priceless!

Great photo. It is special. We watch the black tail deer fawns nursing on our property in the spring and early summer. It is always a privilege. The little tykes can get a bit rough, though. Ouch. 🙂 –Curt
Oh, the Places We See
I’ll bet you’re right. I’ve seen mother dogs and cats get pretty put out by the whole nursing then, especially if the litter is large. But it’s still fascinating to see nature at work!
