What a treat! Shadow Monsters at The Museum of Fine Art Houston.

It’s scary fun at Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts — and a treat for all ages.  Just head to Cullinan Hall where three enormous screens above the theatrical stage transform moving bodies into genuine monsters!  Called Shadow Monsters, this interactive installation by British artist Philip Worthington lets ordinary non-scary folks like us watch as our giant silhouettes meld into monsters while we move and dance in front of the light.  (We hoped no one was looking.)

And stuff just grows.  Like long strands of spooky hair coming out of my head.

Or spiky projections from crooks and bends of elbows and hands.

And with changes in stance come changes in appearance.  It’s Hollywood magic performed before your very eyes.

Don’t know what’s coming out of my hips while I’m taking pics with my phone. But adding weight is scary anytime!

So, treat yourself today at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Strike a pose. Hold your camera.  Grab a prop from one of the baskets on the floor.  But don’t be scared.  Just make a shadow!

It’s not a wedding without wedding cake, but we’re always amazed at the extraordinary feat it must be to create an elaborate, elegant, showy-yet-tasty after-dinner creation.  At my niece’s wedding this past weekend in Magnolia, Texas, the bride’s cake drew attention. And well it should.  It had it all:  layers of almond cake with buttercream frosting (both smooth and embellished), an elegant monogram, fresh fall flowers, and a stately cross at the top.  Extraordinary in and of itself.

But much of the conversation related to this sweet ending centered on the groom’s cake. Yes, it really was a six-foot deer!  And an edible one at that.  With a red velvet cake interior and chocolate buttercream frosting body, this was one deer even the crew of Duck Dynasty (the groom’s favorite show) would find extraordinary!

Best of all? They were both soooooo good.

Afternoon sun causes a reflection on a clever window display in Grapevine TX

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections reminded me of a photo that’s really NOT so good, mainly because the reflection of the sun on a window display wreaked havoc with the photo I so wanted to capture!  But actually, it’s that reflection that gives this picture a dual nature.

At 338 S. Main Street in Grapevine, Texas, the window of Eye Health Associates offered a display of glasses perched on a stack of upside down vintage coffee makers!  The creativity and unusual nature of the display caught my eye, but as I reflect upon the face-to-face nature of that display, I almost think those eyes were looking out at me — almost as if the display might be reflecting on the people passing by, pressing their noses against the glass to get a better look.  If those glasses could talk, they just might have some reflections of their own to share!!!

Clever display caused me to reflect on who’s looking at who!
