In these days of protecting ourselves from the coronavirus, it’s sometimes hard to tell if anyone is smiling. After all, our mouths may be upturned, but no one can see past our masks!

But maybe we’re not looking in all the right places. Imagine our surprise when we checked in at The Charlotte Hotel in Onancock, Virginia, and opened the door to our room. And there it was — a stained glass window smiling back.

So now, after finding a smile where we least expected, we’re on the lookout for more. Maybe we all should be. And while we’re at it, let’s count our blessings, even though this year has been fraught with sickness, election year turmoil, and personal problems related to the collapse of everything we took for granted.

Not much to smile about in 2020. But then again, do ducks ever smile?

Look for smiles. Share a smile. And be grateful for happiness wherever you find it.
