Weekly Photo Challenge: Wall

Ancient wall, Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico

One of many ancient walls in Acoma Pueblo Sky City, a village located on a mesa approximately 60 miles from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and continuously inhabited since the 1200s.

This special place, Acoma Pueblo, is known as “Haaku,” a spiritual homeland for an eternal dwelling. One of the oldest continually inhabited communities in the U. S. where almost 100 people live year-round with no running water or electricity, New Mexico’a Acoma Pueblo Sky City is open for tours on which you can take pictures of the spectacular view from the mesa and touch the ancient walls of the original buildings.

Great wall shot. New Mexico is filled with native american history including several petroglyphs sites— including one in Albuquerque. –Curt

Thanks for your comment. We love Native American History — only recently became truly immersed in it. Fascinated by the different pottery and artifacts of different regions. So much to learn . . . so little time!

the different textures on the wall are so interesting and nice up view – also – very neat that it has been inhabited since the 1200’s – I like southwest stuff like this – have a nice day <3

Thanks for the comment. We love the Southwest also. It’s not just the walls and buildings, though. The people, culture, and artifacts are quite fascinating.

Thanks for the comment. It was a beautiful experience all totaled. Just being up on that mesa in a place built so long ago was like nothing we had ever experienced.
