Even the seagulls may have been surprised at the sunset calm on the waters.  Portland Pier buzzes with activity during the day, but when rays lengthen and urban waterside buildings glow with late-day light, a sense of calm falls over everyone.

Even boats stand ready  —  and calm — while diners at J’s Oyster peer out the windows and enjoy the view.

It’s Maine on hold — at least for a while — at Portland Pier.

Thanks for your comment. I loved this whole scene, and, if I were a painter, this would be one I’d love to reproduce on canvas. This whole city, however, is colorful and rich with great photo ops.

Thanks, Curt. We definitely just happened onto this scene. And I’m so glad I looked down the alley where we stood to take pictures. Maine is incredible — we are in Castine now — and my early morning walks leave me breathless! Hope your part of the world is looking fallish, and you’re ready to hunker down for the winter.

Right now I am in Connecticut, Rusha, visiting with our son and his family. I was hoping for a little more fall color but it’s still warm here. I’ve been going outside with a T-shirt. We explored the small coastal town of Mystic, today, however. That was a treat.
I’ve been in Maine during the fall. It can be beautiful! –Curt

Thanks so much. I had no idea this place was so pretty, but I saw someone with a huge telephoto lens on his camera standing near the pier. I rushed over to see what he was seeing, and wow! What a calm, beautiful setting.

It makes our day to hear from you.
