Bound for Provence

Photo from pexels.com

Oh, the Places We See will be blank for a while.  We’re finally checking off a few places in Italy and France we’ve always dreamed of seeing:  Lake Como in Italy, a Viking River Cruise from Lyon to Avignon, a week in Provence seeing Les Baux, Aix-en-Provence, Rousillon, and the coast from Cassis to Nice.  Well, that’s the plan, at least.  Who knows where the trip will take us since we’ve been known to veer off the charted path just to see another field, an interesting abbey, or a tiny town with cobblestone streets.

We don’t blog on our trips — just trying to enjoy and keep up with the guides!  But we post daily here:

So much to see.  So little time! But join us online when you can.

Hello, that’s a great plan for a trip. All places I’m sure will be great. I have seen Lake Como last year, and I can assure you that it’s amazing. Also Nice, I have visited some good 6 years ago and I can also recommend you Menton on the Cote d’Azure. Have you seen it also?

I will impatiently wait for the articles and impressions!

We’re home now, and will start back up writing about the national parks in Utah. But right after that, we’ve got some amazing photos of Italy and France to share. What a good summer so far. Thanks for taking a look and following us!

Sounds like a promising plan and yes veering off plan is always part of the fun. But that is a nice serving of eye popping architectural delights coming your way. We will look for you on instagram. As you may know, any good French child reads his bodyweight in Asterix comic books (and has for the past several decades). One of the most memorable Asterix book was about the discovery of unique food in each town where his journeys took him around France. Hope you will share that one memorable bite that is the specialty of the towns you visit in France. Have a wonderful time!!!

Well, we’re back. Thanks for waiting for a response to your quite kind and informative reply. We loved France — the architecture, people, food. All great. Hope to post some pics that will refresh our memories and inspire others to travel there. Looking forward to your future posts, too.

If you have time in Provence, check out Arles. It is a lovely small city for a stroll and has a Roman amphitheater and a coliseum. Enjoy your travels.

You were so right, Marie! Arles has lovely architecture and some great streets just waiting to be “shot” with my camera. The folks in Arles were preparing for a concert in the amphitheater when we were there, and I can only imagine how awesome it would be to sit there and listen surrounded by history!

Some of that not being “locked onto our laptops” thing is availability. We always seem to have hotels with spotty internet. And then there’s the transporting thing. Would you believe that Bert left his backpack at a train station in Milan. Gone are his cellphone, Kindle, prescription sunglasses, and some other must-haves. I guess if the laptop had been in there, it would be gone, too. So, we don’t try to travel and write. We just enjoy.

We’re back and can definitely say we had a wonderful time! So much to see and do there. So many people to converse with even though we have limited knowledge of French. And so many photos waiting to be taken! We love seeing the world, as you may be able to tell!

    1. Oh, the Places We See

We saw so many great little towns in Provence, and then ended in Nice, a city with so much going for it. I’m impressed with the French — their ways of doing things, the food they eat, and the politeness that we experienced. Hope your summer is going well, too.

Vandy, you wouldn’t believe how beautiful the little towns in France are. We were blown away by cobblestone streets, old masonry facades, and little shops tucked into tiny places in those steep, skinny alleyways. Hope to sort through all my pictures soon!

We’re back, Dawn, and I can definitely say that we had fun! And learned a lot. And ate ourselves into oblivion with croissants each morning and great food other times, too. Travel is good, but so is coming home. Can’t wait to share more with all of you.

We’re back, Jodi, and can honestly say we’ve seen some of the prettiest scenery anywhere. Lavender was in bloom, but it was the little hillside towns that made me want to snap away and capture each viewpoint. More to come!

You are so right about Lake Como. We have lakes in Tennessee, but nothing of the size and scope of that one. Loved the towns along water’s edge and the ferry boat rides from place to place. More to come on the blog!!!

Thanks so much, Sue. I think I wore out my camera trying to capture that “just right moment.” But what I really wish I could have done was get to the sites in the early morning light. Often we were out and about mid-day — not the best time for photos, but better than not going at all!

It makes our day to hear from you.
