For the past 30 years or so, we’ve visited Pawleys Island, South Carolina, the last week of July. As an educator, I’ve often walked the beach to reflect on what worked the year before in teaching students and what I’d like to do differently in the coming year. The inspiration I gain from these yearly beach walks keeps me going hroughout the year.
But now that my granddaughter comes with us to the beach, I’m inspired in new ways. Through her eyes, I see the beach differently, more closely. We look for shells, barnacles, little critters that hang out on the jetties. We stomp through tiny puddles, hop waves, and try not to get our pants legs wet if we aren’t wearing our suits. I’m inspired to show her more and more each day, learning from her as we visit the sea. Hopefully, she gains a little something from me, too.

That is such an endearing photo, Rusha. You can almost feel the water against her legs, and the sand that is moving beneath her toes. 🙂

Thanks for your comment. The older I get, the more endearing these trips become.

There is no better place to be than the beach!
I find it relaxing and you can recharge batteries in a short time.
How lovely to see your granddaughter being carefree and just have fun.
Kids grow up so fast these days and we must remind them to appreciate the great (and free) things right?
Lovely photo 🙂
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks so much. I love your expression — recharge batteries. That’s exactly how I feel. When I leave after a week away, I’m more willing to dig in to whatever lies ahead. Thanks for reading/posting.

I’m looking forward to the day when I might wander along the beach with grandchildren. Enjoyed your interpretation of the theme very much.
Oh, the Places We See
People told me I would love being a grandmother, but I didn’t know it could be this good. She’s 6 now, and I wonder how much longer she’ll enjoy doing things with me. Your time will come, I hope.

Beautiful! Lived on Kiawah until recently. The Lowcountry is a gorgeous area.
Oh, the Places We See
I like Kiawah but have only driven through it once. Would love to stay there. But all these South Carolina (and Lowcountry, as you’ve reminded me) beaches are glorious. So fun to go there!

We also love the beach my kids are water babies and get in the water anytime they can. When we where recently in Barcelona we went to the beach, their is lots of topless bathers it what they do in Barcelona. The girls kept quietly asking why dont they have tops mummy, it was very funny. We had to say Marley stop pointing lol
Oh, the Places We See
There’s no telling what my granddaughter would do if she saw someone topless on the beach! But it would be fun to watch!! Thanks for the comment!

What a beautiful capture, Rusha! 🙂
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks so much, Amy. We were up before anyone else at our beach house, so it was fun to have her all to myself!

Beautiful post. I hate to say it, but it makes me feel melancholy for all the wonderful times I spent at the beach with my granddaughter who is now a teenager. Capture every moment – it has to last a long time because the sad fact is teenagers don’t go to the beach with grandparents, at least mine don’t. LOL 🙂
Oh, the Places We See
And I doubt that mine will either. I’m trying to savor the moments, but she’s growing up quickly. Too quickly.

Lovely shot and post! 💛
Oh, the Places We See
Thanks so much. I also get inspiration from your paintings. I’ve dabbled in art but not for a while. Want to get back into it. Keep posting — I need your inspiration!

Yes, the insights we can gain from the ocean is amazing…
Oh, the Places We See
So true. I love taking pictures at the beach even though I can’t count all the sunrises and sunsets! Guess it continues to thrill me!

It’s wonderful to see something familiar through new eyes. Sometimes it makes you realize you’ve become so used to the view that you stopped actually seeing it.
Oh, the Places We See
You’re so right. I love seeing the world through her right now. Everything is new and glorious!
